Personal Project

Own Pace Studio
Brand Building
Product Development

Overview

After moving my career into digital design, I started this project with the goal to create a product that could not be replicated with the computer; to move off the screen and design something that was tactile.

Using my background and knowledge in textile design, I created textiles that merged dyeing and painting to create ombre, and layered dye designs that would be difficult if not impossible to recreate using digital or screen printing methods.

I was interested to explore slow fashion, using natural fibers and hand-sewn one of a kind details, I aimed create a product that felt precious, but useful. Working on my own project from inception, I enjoyed thinking holistically about the brand, from product development, through to branding and marking channels. I was able to lend my hand at art direction, and digital marketing, sourcing and production, as well as the core project, textile design.

Impact

• Found local vendors for pattern making, fabric sourcing, fabric steaming, garment making, putting together a production order and pricing

• Collaborated with friends on product shoots, in studio and on set

• Launched site, social media accounts and Etsy store and hosted store at holiday market

• Enjoying the creative outlet and learnt a lot while setting up the project as a small business, before ultimately bringing it back to personal project status

The most enjoyable part of working on Own Pace Studio was working with friends and connecting with other local makers and small businesses. Shoot 1 - Shot by Riley Carithers \ Shoot 2 - Shot by Pip Cowley. Model: Laci Spicer, Next Models New Faces \ Shoot 3 - Shot by Lauren Camarata. Model, friend and local cook, Xinyi Lim

Working on a small brand meant that I could practice thinking holistically about what I was trying to say across branding materials and marketing channels. This included creating a logo and hang tags, through to testing brand presence on website, Etsy, and an in person holiday market.

Creating a product from scratch provides a remarkable sense of freedom and opens up endless possibilities. However, after experimenting with various concepts, I recognized the importance of starting small and focusing on my own brief. Consequently, I narrowed down the product offering to three key items: the robe, wraps, and pillow slips. These items were carefully chosen to bring a touch of luxury and practicality to the home environment.
